[The anime shown at the meeting: 'Axis Powers Hetalia']
We had a wonderful holiday end of the year get-together! Lessons on Japanese Holidays were conducted by Clive Coultas and Joey Trask, while an anime christmas special (see below) was presented by Sarah Cimaglio. Mia bought in a holiday cake, and Joey Trask bought in Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
There are honestly way too many people to thank for making this possible, but special thanks has to be awarded to Mrs. Wilkinson for providing a LCD projector, and Frau Sommermeyer for providing her laptop.

November 5th, 2009[Vice-President Clive Coultas leads the club in a language lesson]
We had a great lesson on Japanese language, particularly common phrases and commands. We had students attempt to pronounce some of the words listed and some were more successful than others. This language lesson was followed by a brief presentation on Nekocon which is a popular anime convention.
We also elected a new officer to replace Emily, we are pleased to welcome Sarah Cimaglio as our newest officer. Special Thanks to Mia Stanley for the Nekocon presentation. |

[Members sit and watch the anime 'Shadow Skill']
Our first anime day of the year went fairly well. Obviously this was a tradition that we have done in previous years, but we wanted to throw in material that was "educational", so we had Joey Trask go over the history of Pokemon, which you can read for yourself below. The members then voted between two animes: "Pokemon" and "Shadow Skill". The members voted for Shadow Skill which was what we ended up watching for the rest of the meeting.
Special Thanks to Mia Stanley and Jevon Tabb for bringing in anime DVDs for the members to vote on.
October 22nd, 2009[Vivian Aguilar engaged in a game of tennis]
We basically went over Japanese recreation that is enjoyed during and after school in Japan. We went over popular sports and some of the main hobbies enjoyed by the Japanese. We also explored some of the state-of-the-art recreational facilities that are offered in Japan. The lesson was followed by a mini-field trip to Woodside High School's tennis courts where the students got to play tennis, which is one of the many popular sports enjoyed in Japan.
Special Thanks to Coach Trotter for providing the tennis rackets and tennis balls.
October 1st, 2009[Clive Coultas (left) and Joey Trask (right) pose for a picture as Club President Emily Taylor hides under her laptop. This was taken while we were planning for the next meeting.]
We learned all about Japanese high schools, through a slideshow presentation that was genorously made by Emily. We learned about the daily schedule of a high school student, as well as the customs and traditions that are imposed by most Japanese high schools. This lesson was concluded with a short 5-question pop-quiz, which was generated by our webmaster Joey Trask. Congratulations to Jevon Tabb and Vivian Aguilar for guessing all 5 questions plus the bonus question correctly! Special Thanks goes to Amanda Lowitz for wearing an excellent example of a female Japanese school uniform! |
